The art and challenge of losing Dewey decimal system in a high school library, or any library for that matter, can be daunting. The adoption of genre-based organization, also known as the bookstore model, empowers students, staff, and Library Media Specialists to interact, grow and build the collection. Going this route involves student voices, opinion and is a powerful tool in engaging students in reading. We will be discussing the ins and outs of the process, and how to make it happen, even on a modest budget. This process will pay dividends for students engagement in the selection of their titles and ease of collection development. If you haven't made the jump to genre-based organization or have been on the fence about it, this is the session to attend. There will be a question and answer session, and practical resources shared to help you make this happen at your school.
