Books on Bikes is a summer literacy program for families in the Fort Atkinson community that was launched in June 2018. The district elementary and middle school librarians and other guest riders volunteered their time for weekly bicycle rides on several routes in Fort Atkinson. The bikes pulled trailers loaded with books to give to students and their families at designated stops along the route.   The Books on Bikes program was designed to provide students and their families books to read at home during the summer months. The goal is to foster a love of reading and help students maintain the reading skills attained the previous school year. Because it is a district and city-wide program, we reached a broad range of students and their families.   This session will describe our program and will outline the process for others who'd like to open a "chapter" of Books on Bikes!
